Steve Nash The making of the Mvp

1. The reason I would recommend this book would be if you are a sports fan or specifically a Phoenix Sun or Steve Nash fan. This book is very well written and is easy to read so if you are not an excellent reader you shouldn't have any problems with this book. The book provides a detailed story of how Steve Nash was able to get a scholarship to a University and from there go and play in the NBA. So if you are a sports fan or Steve Nash fan this is a great book for you. Another reason I would recommend this book is because not only does it tell us of the difficulties Steve Nash had trying to acquire a Scholarship but it gives us the solutions and ways in which he solved those problems. I found this very inspiring because it told us that even a normal kid from Victoria can become someone famous.
2. If I was to cast an actor as the lead character it would be Liam Gallagher. Liam Gallagher is not an actor but a musician and I chose him because I feel he best resembles Steve Nash physically and he could portray Steve Nash i better because of his age 38, Steve Nash is 37. IF I did chose Liam Gallagher I would have to grow his hair differently and make sure he was fit enough to play an NBA player. Also there would have to be someone younger to play Steve Nash during his High School and for that I chose Alexander Gold because he looks like what I think Steve Nash would look like.I also would think about casting Steve Nash in this movie because I know that Steve Nash owns a Movie production company and has produced some short films himself so I feel that he might have played himself in this movie for some parts of it. Both of the people I chose excluding Steve Nash are not the best actors so I would have to put them through lessons.

The Curious Incident Of The Dog At Night-time

I would recommend you this book for the following reasons. The novel itself isn't that long at all , it could easily be finished in a two days or less even if your not a huge reader , its fairly simple to understand because the author pretend he is writing as a autistic child. The following reason is because its a feel good book , even if it treats of pretty dark things you'll never find yourself scared or traumatized by this book . The last reason why I would recommend this book is its originality , its incredibly original , how many times in youre life time will you read a book about a autistic child that solves the crime of his neighbors dog ? Those are the reason why i would recommend this book

The Curious Incident Of The Dog At Night-time

Question 3
If I had to cast one actor to play the protagonist in this novel curious incident... written by Mark Haddon. I would try and find actors who have already have experience playing disabled people , because this book stars a young adult , who is trying to solve the mystery of his neighbors dog death. The protagonist in this story suffers from a mild case of autism. I only have one actor in mind and that is Tom Hanks even if he's now much older than the protagonist in this story , he would fit perfectly in the role of the hero, because of his brilliant performance in Forest Gump where he plays a young man trying to find himself , and he also suffers from disabilities.

Between a rock and a hard place

Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston

Question 1

I would recomend this to people for a variety of reasons but first I must say that if you are someone who cant handle some gore than you might not want to read this book due to the fact that their are pictures of his arm cut off ect. The main reason I would recommend this book is because the story that is told is so life changing. Hearing about how he has to cut and bite off his own arm while he is stuck in a very small hot place is amazing. It also shows how survival instincts you never knew you had will kick in when you truly need them. My favorite part in this book i not actually the part were the rock fell down trapping his arm but when he was traveling with the two women and they split off just before the accident happened. Its amazing how differently this situation could have played out if these two would have stayed with him. For these reasons I would definitely recommend this book.

Question 4

If this were a movie the opening scene would be a short clip of him with his arm stuck between the rock, his face sweating and him yelling in pain, then the shot closing. After that it would go to earlier that day when he was just starting his trip. A nice day, great weather for the trip and the movie would play on from there up to the point of his arm getting stuck but it would go further. I think this would be appropriate because this shows the audience a bit of whats to come so they want more and then goes back so there is suspense for when this will actually occur.

Screw It, Let's Do It Lessons In Life by Richard Branson

Question 1

I would strongly recommend this book because of two reasons for one, it was written by Richard Branson and two, it is a quick, fast paced read which anyone can enjoy.

Richard Branson is literally, in my opinion, the greatest entrepreneur of our time. He has multi billion dollar corporations around the world. He's interfered and helped with some of the world's most touchy problems like the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 and flew around the world in a hot air balloon race. He started from only a little magazine in England when he was sixteen called, Student.  He found out later that he had mild dyslexia which made reading difficult. Because of this he memorized what was being said to compensate.  These are achievements, accomplished by an amazing guy. If learning about Richard Branson's adventures and stories aren't luring to this amazing read and you want some life and business tips to help then your in luck. You'll be delighted to know that Richard Branson also gives helpful tips along the way, guiding you through life's hardships.  For instance when he went to jail for tax evasion and loosing money on business endeavours.  He was resilient and didn't give up. I found the book inspiring because it made me think of life and the goals which we should set for ourselves.

The book itself and the way it's written is magnificent. It really is a strong quick read that people at any age can enjoy. What really keeps the reader interested is the fact that Richard Branson is able to keep us thinking about business and life. At the same time he can keep use entertained by placing in some amazingly fun and quirky story's about himself and his business.

  Question 9

Virgin Galactic is slowly starting up. We bought parts and constructed a state of the art space craft. It is specifically designed to take people up into space and get a tour like they've never had before. It's not new for Virgin and myself to do something different and maybe a bit out of the norm. Like the time I was in the round the world hot air balloon race or when I was asked to sponsor a powerboat to win the Blue Riband. The launch day is set for October 2019 only a couple months away. I'm so happy that people are actually realizing that this is an amazing accomplishment. For use as humans to be able to experience the great vastness of space is incredible. In the safe and secure Virgin Galactic space craft there is no worry of any life threatening problems.

The reason why I choose the opening of Virgin Galactic as my pick up story in the future is because it is one of the major things that Virgin itself will be known for. This is mainly because they will be the first company to every have tours of space. I also picked it because I think that it shows that Richard Branson author of Screw It, Let's Do It Lessons In Life thinks in a very different way then other Entrepreneurs and Business owners. His perception of life and what it gives use is more refreshing then the normal strive for success book. By showing what Richard Branson really is will have a positive impact on people's likelihood of reading this book.

P.S Not actual launch date for Virgin Galactic

Keeper

Question 1:

1). To start off, I would strongly recommend this book to soccer lovers. This is because it is a story of goal keeper making his long journey to reach the toughest trophy in all of sports; the World Cup. Although this is a fiction novel, it illustrates the book as if it was a true story. For example it talks about how he the "Keeper" signs with a youth team, and then gets noticed by bigger clubs such as: Real Madrid and Inter Milan. A soccer fan then could relate to the real world and would be able to understand what the author is talking about.

2). I would also recommend this book to other readers, because it explains that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. The Protagonist in this story quits soccer when he was 13. Later on though he got training to be become a goal keeper, he trained with his own coach everyday for 2 years, before he played an actual game. After the game he got noticed by others, that led him to his professional career. Another reason why this book would be enjoyable is because that it straight forward and easy to follow.

Question 4:

If this book was named to a movie the closing scene would be as follows. As El Gato (protagonist) reached his training spot, in the forest, he would talk to his trainer (spirit of the old national goalie). As the trainer would explain his purpose of still being on Earth. Then the rest of the national team form before would come out and disapear in to the mist.

Alive

Q: 1

I would recommend this book for the fact that it was incredibly interesting that they survived and it kept you reading, and also that the book shows you incredible human spirit while the survivors struggle to stay together. The most interesting part of the book is when they realize that if they don’t eat the bodies of the dead then they will be dead themselves. Some of the eat the meat raw, and any part of it that is available to them such as a liver or a heart. Some where even brave enough to eat the brains. Others acted more conservatively and only ate when they had a fire and were therefore going to cook. None however would rather go hungry than brake the taboo of their old life. Their strength to overcome this taboo showed extraordinary bravery.

Monologue:

Damn, I left my sunglases near the creak. Thats at least 2 hours there, and another 2 back. Stupid me, I nead those sunglases otherwise ill go blind up here on these mountains. Should I tell Parado my mistake, or should I spare him the wait and continue without then. The worst part is that those sunglases werent even mine, they were Vizintins from when he turn back from the expidition. He'll think so badly of me if he finds out, those were the only pair any of us had and he trusted me with them. I could go get them, thats the best thing to do. But Parado wants to get moving before dark and I dont want to waste any of our food because I had to go back. I should tell him, I need those and I need to be loyal to Vizintin and return whats his. On the other hand we need to keep moving. After all, Chile is west...... I hope so at least. Anyway, thinking about it wont do any good, ill tell him, I hope he understands.

Sumer Reading Blog

1. I reccomend this book for these two reasons:

My first reason for reccomending this book to my peers is that I really enjoyed reading in a style that I have never seen written before. There were four main characters in my book and the book takes turns telling the story from each point of view. For example the book starts off with one of the main characters, Martin, narrorating and you can read his stream of conciousness then from there it moves to another character,Maureen, narrorating her story and we can read her stream of conciousness. Also I reccomend this book because it has a series of events throughout a crazy evening, and the reason that this random group of people are together is that they all want to commit suicide, but incidentally it causes good realization and benificial occurances. So you begin reading thinking that this novel is going to be a bummer , and it ends up as sort of a comedy peice. This novel is also one I couldn't put down , and that doesn't happen too often with books for me.

3. If I were to cast one or two major characters from my book in a movie, I would choose the following actors for these reasons:

In my book A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby There are four main characters, Maureen, JJ , Jess , and Martin. All of their personalities are completely different but they all have one common desire, to commit suicide. The two most influential characters in my opinion are Martin and Jess. Martin is a middleaged man that had a perfect life , with a job on a breakfast television show and a beautiful wife and kids. He lived luxuriously and had everything. To end this life he made the mistake of sleeping with a 15 year-old girl and he lost everything. Because this chracter reminds me so much of the character Jack Donaghy off of 30 rock I cast martin's character as Alec Baldwin. The way Hornby describes Martin physically seems parrallel to the way Baldwin looks. Also many similar personality traits and bad habits with women relations come through to the reader. Jess is a troubled 18 years-old girl whom is obsessed with an exboyfriend. I could see Lindsay Lohan pulling off this role because of her life seems to be a complete mess and she emulates what the character Jess is built up to be. Jess's character is a vulgar teenager and Lohan has prtrayed this in many other roles already.

The Glass Castle

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
1) I recommend you read this book for these two reasons: 1. The writing style is creative and refreshing. It keeps you interested throughout the entire book. Walls uses effective explanations and imagery that allows you to easily picture the surroundings of her childhood and allows you to fell as though you know every character on a personal level. 2. The non-traditional format for the book was really refreshing and allowed me to stay interested as it brought in different pieces from the present and the past.

2) If I were to cast one or two major characters from my book in a movie, I would choose the following actors for these reasons: I would choose Jodie Foster as the older Jeanette because she is a very strong actress and seems to fit the character of Jeanette in looks and personality. I would also choose Abigail Breslin as the young Jeanette because she seems to be a very flexible actress and would be able to fit the roll very well. Also from pictures in the book they look rather similar and it seems to be a good match.

Summer Reading Blog Assignment

Dear English 10 Students,

Please choose two of the questions below to answer in a fully articulated, approx. 150 word (each question) blog post by Friday, Sept. 17th. Don't forget to start your post with the name of the novel ( in italics) and the author's full name. If you are responding to questions #1 or #2, please respond more fully than "it was good" or "it was bad"- give specifics (example: “I would not recommend this book to fellow classmates as the language was too difficult and the plot was hard to follow as the characters traveled in time continuously. Instead, I would recommend...")

After you have completed your post, the second part of the assignment is to respond to at least one of your classmates' posts. If you have read the book they are writing about, you can add your own ideas. Even if you haven’t read the book they are writing about, you can still ask clarifying questions and add your thoughtful comments.

Please write your full name after each post.
